The event took place at the Church of Scientology & Community Centre of Dublin. Speakers represented several areas of community work, providing participants with a broader picture of humanitarian activity in and around Dublin.
Among the speakers was South Dublin Mayor Cllr. Francis Timmons, who presented the practical assistance provided through Clondalkin Helping Homeless.
Viktor Kozyrev, co-founder of VOLA Enable, presented programmes designed to improve inclusion and quality of life for people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
Silvia Fani introduced participants to the activities of Scientology Volunteer Ministers, including community projects and responses to emergencies.
Created in the 1970s by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, the Volunteer Ministers programme is centred on providing practical help in everyday difficulties and times of crisis. Its motto is news euros “Something Can Be Done About It.”
The afternoon also included a hands-on workshop introducing some of the techniques taught to Volunteer Ministers.
The Dublin event provided a snapshot of the many forms community service can take when groups respond to local needs.
